At first the beats sound wack but when you listen to them more you realize there's a true theme going throughout the whole album, and they complement the lyrics perfectly. ![]() Some of his songs sounds like straight underground shit, but it's amazing. The fact that Nas' music isn't too radio friendly is why I love his stuff. Nas is a lyrical genius and a true artist when it comes to rap. But Nas has always been honest in his lyrics and raps about real shit, just listen to "God's Son," where he admits his mistakes. Unfortunately, he didn't realize this himself until "Stillmatic," where he completely changed his form and style back to his roots. Also the leak of his "I Am." album really hindered his career and we would have probably never seen "Nastradamus." However, Nas didn't adapt too well with the change of the hiphop sound which was changing going into the 2000s. He was one of the hottest rappers alive at the time. "It Was Written" debuted #1 on the billboard charts and stayed there for 4 consecutive weeks.
